The biggest thing about running for me isn't really the speed, not that I don't want to go faster. I do. It's that length of time where I just forget everything. I look around, take in the sights and sounds, and maybe listen to music that fits my mood that day.
During that time, I just focus on what is happening as my feet hit the earth and feel my breath. That part I often struggle with so I often have to get my lungs up and moving too.
It's peaceful. Even in runs that are less than stellar I enjoy those moments. I may struggle when I am out there but I love training for a race. I love the challenge of it. It's something to fight for. Sometimes that's everything.
And when I come home after a run, I get puppy kisses. Totally worth it.
